Kim Westerink has been weaving with natural fibres as a member of Te Awhi Rito for three years. During this time, her work has been featured in exhibitions in Golden Bay, Nelson, Auckland, Christchurch, Taranaki and Wellington.

“For me, a big part of the enjoyment in weaving is working with the raw material. Harvesting my materials in nature,
then playing with them to create something unique, original and beautiful.”

Kim works mainly with Harakeke - New Zealand Flax, Pingao, Kuta and Kie Kie, which she gathers from “magic spots“ in Golden Bay.

Her work is quite experimental. “I like doing things that are a little bit different - cushions, wine bottle and cellphone covers. Te Awhi Rito Hou is about keeping the traditions alive - and having a lot of fun with good friends.”
