Greetings and welcome to MONZA, Golden Bay's Art Gallery of More Outstanding New Zealand Art

This charming building in Takaka's main street houses a collection of fine work by artists, jewellers, weavers, potters and sculptors from this uniquely creative part of New Zealand.

 

MONZA Art Gallery specialises in Golden Bay art and the selection you will see as you on this website is representative of what you will usually find on display.

 

At the time of photography 55 Golden Bay artists had their work for sale in the art gallery.

 

 

CURRENT EXHIBITION

"We're back for our 3rd exhibition together, each interpreting the theme, "Journeys". We meet to share art making, encouragement, travelling together to wild places for weekends of painting and to enjoy each other's company."

 

PHILLY HALL
"The journey of the Anatoki River is close to my heart from its source below the Douglas Range (Dragon's Teeth) to where it meets the sea at Waitapu. It passes below my home and my happiest times are spent drifting downstream with the current on hot summer days. I am working from a fresh perspective - following the river from a bird's eye view, using topographical maps and Google Earth. This has been a journey within itself."

HENNIE PEMBERTON
The start of this journey was Onetahua, Farewell Spit in 2007 shortly after the death of my eldest sister. These paintings are about the inner journey, the spiritual journey. Towards God - pathways and choice - turning to the light - life's great journey.

KATHY REILLY
Taking the theme as a journey of travel, this collection is based on the idea of illuminated manuscripts and has given an opportunity to recreate my sketches in recent travel diaries. As a picture is worth a thousand words, the etchings replace the text of the traditional illuminated manuscript.
