KATHY REILLY is a Golden Bay artist working from her studio overlooking the family dairy farm in Takaka. Kathy was born in 1960 and grew up in Golden Bay. She studied Graphic Design at Christchurch Technical Institute, then worked as a Commercial Artist in advertising and printing before returning to Takaka for a career in dairy farming.

Fifteen years later, Kathy was able to resume her career as an artist, this time though with the freedom to pursue styles and subjects that inspire her. She works in pen and ink, oils, watercolours and printmaking, preferring portraiture, still life and surreal subject matter.

Kathy began painting cups and saucers from her own family collection in 2001. These works are inspired by traditional fine china designs and are painted on colourful backgrounds.

Each of the series is an original acrylic painting on stretched canvas, measuring 20cm x 20cm (8 x 8 inches). The reverse side of each artwork features the artist's signature and date.ement and i

Willow Tea

Kathy's works are exhibited in the Bay of Islands, Auckland,  New Plymouth, Wellington, Christchurch, Akaroa, Queenstown, Nelson and Takaka. She also has work in public and private collections in Canada, England, Germany, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand.

Paradise Lost or Storm in a Teacup?

Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Stream Care is Growing

This painting was made for the Golden Bay Stream Care group, a branch of Forest & Bird Golden Bay, to raise funds for their work in growing native seedlings for the establishment of riparian marginsalong the waterways that bisect the dairy farms of Golden Bay.

Since 2006 the group has planted thousands of trees for free on farms using volunteer labour, enhancing the fencing of streams and rivers done by farmers for Fonterra's Clean Streams Accord.

The proceeds from card sales of this painting are my contribution to this magnificent effort in the restoration of the waterways of Golden Bay. Our own family farm has benefitted from the planting of nearly 1000 native trees supplied and planted for free by the Stream Care Group.

Kathy's love of architecture and dedication to drawing as an artform resulted in this collection of pen & ink studies of notable buildings in various New Zealand towns and cities. They are for sale as A4 pen & ink drawings printed on 150gsm acid free watercolour paper and are available in individual presentation folders.
